Publish or Perish: Wycliffe Advanced Degree Publishing Stream
Last year Dr. Mangina gave a seminar on publishing that was very well received. Wadsa would like to build upon this foundation by offering a “stream” of seminars (Thursdays at 1pm) that will walk students through the steps of submitting their own papers to refereed journals.
October 13: Seminar # 1. Introduction to this stream of seminars, and a presentation by Dr. Mangina on publishing. We will also begin to discuss the question of which journals to submit to given our objectives and fields of study. (Pizza Lunch Provided)
November 17: Seminar #2. Students will bring one (or two, if they aren’t sure which one they want to proceed with) completed essay or argument for a proposed essay to this seminar. They will also propose which journals they are thinking of submitting their work to. Professors will give instructions to students about how to help each other prepare a manuscript for publication and give tips about what to look for as they read each others’ work.
January 19: Seminar #3. Students will come to this seminar with a completed or reworked draft of their paper. Students will break into groups of 2 or 3 to receive feedback on their work.
March 1: Seminar #4. Students will undertake the same process as above a second time. They will come to this seminar with a completed or reworked draft of their paper. Students will break into groups of 2 or 3 to receive feedback on their work.
Special note: this stream of seminars requires a commitment from students willing to either (1) submit a paper to this process in hopes of publishing it, or to (2) contribute as an observer, being willing to help other students with their work
