As the Winter 2010 semester winds down, it’s time once again to select successors to two positions: WADSA Coordinator and College Representative to ADSA. Both positions are paid by college bursaries, with the WADSA Coordinator earning $700 and the College Rep earning $350.
In short, the WADSA Coordinator’s job is to spend our budget, which includes taking care of the Senior Common Room and organizing various events (wine & cheese event in the fall, end of year dinner, luncheon seminars with speakers, etc.). It’s a fun job and you can be as creative as you want with planning our events (and spending our money!).
The College Rep to ADSA position is rather different. There are monthly meetings with the rest of the ADSA Board, which includes other college and departmental representatives. Each board member serves on one of three ADSA-event planning committees: Social Events, Development Seminars, or Works & Wine. But strictly speaking, as “college representative,” the primary responsibility is to bring issues/concerns to the Board on behalf of Wycliffe College. For instance, after a Wycliffe student spoke to me regarding a desire for greater availability of library carrels at Robarts, I brought the issue before the Board. After some discussion and subsequent action, I’m proud to report that TST will have 50% more carrel space next year!
Both positions provide an excellent opportunity to develop your own professional/administrative skills, but in very different ways. I’ve grown considerably through having these positions and I highly recommend considering either of them. More information about each position is included in our Constitution, which is available online.
Feel free to email me with any questions about either or both positions. If you’d like to nominate someone (including yourself), just email me. If we have more than one nomination for either position, then we’ll hold elections according to our Constitutional rules. I look forward to hearing from all interested parties!
Cheers,
Andy Edwards
